Dr. Yongmin Baek is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at South Dakota State University. His research builds intelligence directly into hardware. He co-designs sensors and computing engines that process data where it is generated, instead of shipping it elsewhere.

His research focuses on developing sensors that encode and analyze signals at the moment of capture. This enables fast, private, and energy-efficient inference at the edge. He also develops AI hardware across analog, digital, and photonic computing. The goal is massively parallel computation and 3D electronicphotonic integration. Heterogeneous integration of materials, devices, and systems runs through all of this work.
